Legal Department

Legal Metrology involves all measurements which are subjected to legal or regulatory control.  The Ghana Standards Board is mandated by the Weights and Measures Decree, NRCD 326 of 1975 to ensure fair trading practices through the verification of weights and measures. It does so through the Legal Metrology Department of its Metrology Division.

The Legal Metrology Department verifies the weights, measures, weighing and measuring instruments of corporate organizations such as Ghana Police force and a few individual set ups. It also organizes trading seminars annually for stakeholders to build their capacity on measurements and related subjects. Table 2 indicates category of establishments and the instruments being verified for them.
