Scientific Department

The Scientific Metrology Department of the Board’s Metrology Division is responsible for the Metrology Laboratories. It undertakes the calibration of laboratory, medical and other equipment. Three of its laboratories (Temperature, Mass and Pressure) are accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 by DKD of Germany. Table 3 provides area of measurement and range of equipment calibrated by the     Department.

In line with the requirements of the Weights and Measures Decree, the Scientific Metrology Department registers all dealers in weights and measure conducting business in Ghana.

Pattern Approval of Measuring Instruments
The Scientific Metrology Department is responsible for the certification of every new weighing and measuring equipment before it is use in the country by approving its pattern if it conforms to acceptable Standards.  Pattern approval criteria adopted by the Department are generally in accordance with the recommendations of the International Organization for Legal Metrology (OIML).
